I cannot remember the last time I cut myself with a knife, but I wince every time I need to break out a grater. That evil device has claimed more flesh then I’d like to remember. Enter the Cut Resistant Glove from Microplane which is designed to protect from accidental cuts (don’t expect it to prevent injury in case of direct jabs and strong slice). FDA approved for food handling, the glove is constructed from man-made fibers and is wire-free. The glove is machine washable with drip drying and is not dishwasher safe. The Microplane Cut Resistant Glove is available directly from Microplane in small (size 7) or medium/large (size 8/9) for $25 or you can get the medium/large from Juniper Home via Amazon also for $25. |

It has been a while since I saw Star Wars trinket that amused me, so I feel compelled to mention the Darth Vader Toaster. Even the morning slice of toast is no longer safe from the Lucas marketing machine as this toaster brands bread with Vader’s helmet. The Darth Vader Toaster is priced for pre-order at $55 and ships some time in January 2009. |

Throughout the history of this site, we have seen a variety of unique items to conceal and/or carry liquids including alcohol. The Write Shot is quite a strech. With a meager capacity of “about an ounce” in its stainless steel chamber it pretty limited. Otherwise its a pretty non-descript looking pen with unreviewed writing potential. The Write Shot Flask Pen comes with two replacement ink cartridges and comes in a wooden gift box. The pen is available at the sale price of $30. |

The Calamete pasta fork comes to us from .jp and was designed to emulate the human hand in order to make twirling pasta on the fork easier. The fork sans pasta also looks pretty wicked with the pointy metal thumb and ridges on the opposing side. Otherwise it looks to function like an every day fork with the potential for oral injury. The Calamete can be purchased linked from the product’s web site for about $9. |

270 to Win provides an interactive Electoral College map for both the 2008 election and for past elections. I find the historical results more intriguing. Watching the shift in party voting trends, watching the number electors shift based on the changes and population and watching when states “came online” for elections is all interesting. To the left is the map of the 1904 election when the incumbent Teddy Roosevelt defeated Alton Parker. Note that five states and the District of Columbia do not contribute electors yet. The site also has election facts for each election. For the 1904 election the “Issues for the day were the gold standard and the Panama Canal. |

Power Bright’s Worldwide Travel Adapter attempts to simplify the problem by providing a universal power socket on one side and plugs for wall sockets in over one hundred and fifty countries. The adapter has a 6A fuse for surge protection and indicates if the power is 110V or 220V. The user is responsibile to ensure that whatever device they plug in is rated for the voltage or have a suitable voltage converter. The Worldwide Travel Adapter is available from Power Inverters for $20. |

Time pieces are cropping up everywhere these days. I haven’t worn a watch in years since I can always rely on my cell phone to keep accurate time. Even drinkware is sporting the time these days. The Time Mug is taglined as “the world’s first 100% dishwasher safe time-telling drinkware” which means they took the rather traditional warm beverage mug and added an analog clock that is water proof. The mug holds 16 oz. and sports a stainless steel interior which seemed to do better in DrFaulken’s Insulated Mug Shoot Out. The Time Mug is available in eighteen different colors with four different analog clocks some of which have rhinestones ranging in price from $25 to $30 directly from TimeMug LLC’s web site. |

I live next to a house with a fenced in back yard that has been occupied by a variety of tenants and their canine friends. Normally the dogs don’t bother me since they are outdoors and I’d just as soon be inside. But every once in a while such as at 0600 this Thursday early morning barkfests are enough to wake me up before I am ready. So seeing this device in my RSS reader caused me to chuckle. The Outdoor Bark Control is designed to detect dogs barking and to respond with an ultrasonic noise. This irritating noise only audible to the dog (though I wonder if cats could hear it as well, that’d be interesting…) would train the dog not to bark as much. I think it’d be easier and cheaper just to talk with my neighbor should there be more morning incidents. Outdoor Bark Control can be purchased from Hammacer Schlemmer for $70 or from Amazon for $48. There are other products similar to this such as the Dog Silencer Pro which can be had for $90. |
