Constitution Day (1 week ago :P)

Constitution The 17th was Constitution Day. Formerly known as “Citizenship Day”, the 2004 Omnibus Spending bill at the behest of Senator Robert C. Byrd of West Virginia requires educational instituations to hold an educational program on Consitution Day (Division J, Title I, Page 118, Stat. 3344, Section 111, (b)):

Each educational institution that receives Federal funds for a fiscal year shall hold an educational program on the United States Constitution on September 17 of such year for the students served by the educational institution.

As the 17th fell on a Saturday, here at William & Mary, Constitution Day was celebrated on the 16th with a presentation by Professor Van Alstyne, one of the professors of William & Mary’s Marshall-Wythe School of Law. I did not attend the presentation, but I recently watched the Quicktime Archive of it and thought it was very informative.
