Peachoid

Peachoid mooning I-85 I could have sworn that I posted this before, but when I went to respond to Tommy’s comment on the Heart-Shaped Magic Mood Lights I couldn’t find it so here is Peachiod‘s very own roclar.net post! The water tower Peachoid was built by the Board of Public Works in Gaffney, SC and was constructed by Chicago Bridge & Iron Company. The Peachoid is clearly visible from I-85 between exits 90 and 92 in South Carolina and I get a chuckle from it mooning me every time I am on that stretch of road to visit my folks. Since water towers are normally pretty boring structures there are many artistic water towers around the country including a smaller peach constructed by the same company in Clanton, Alabama. Incidentally, I do have to agree with Tommy that those hearts, especially with the bottom obscured look like rumps points skyward.

Water Fryer

Water Fryer The Water Fryer was designed as a way to increase the longevity of oil in a deep fryer. For those of thus unfamiliar with deep frying, apparently in normal fryers, the oil gets pretty nasty as flakes of food fall off and have no place to go. Since oil and water do not mix, adding a water tank at the bottom gives the extra flakes somewhere else to go leaving the oil cleaner. It also allows water and ice to be added to the fryer without an explosion. The Water Fryer web site did a one month study at a business and was able to cook the roughly the same amount of food using half the oil. As part of their demonstration the Water Fryer folks added a couple of gold fish to prove they were really using water in the tank. Sure makes for a good picture and the video included in the TechEBlog and other referers makes for a good watch.

Curious Mailboxes

Underwater Post off of Hideaway Island in the Republic of Vanuatu I found mention of a few interesting mailboxes and thought I give them a post. First is the Underwater Post Office located off of Hideway Island in the Republic of Vanuatu. This post office is located a little over fifty yards off-shore and about three yards beneath the surface of the water. The Vanuatu Post trained four employees as divers and staffs the office about one hour a day depending on interest with at least one staff member and somebody else standing by for safety reasons. There is also an underwater drop box for other hours of the day to post the special waterproof cards. The Vanuatu Post also operates a volcano mailbox on the rim of an active volcano on Tanna Island which serves as their second “Xtreme” postal location.

Plitvicka Jezera National Park waterfalls Here is a rather impressive photo gallery of the Plitvice Lakes National Park located in Croatia. Recognized on UNESCO’s World Heritage List, the lakes caves and waterfalls were created by water flowing over limestone and chalk. Very beautiful.

Boat Fountain

boat fountain located on Malvarrosa beach Valencia, Spain Located on Malvarrosa Beach in Valencia, Spain this boat fountain sure looks nifty. I wasn’t able to find much more information then its location but I did find a few different angles of the fountain in action. First we have the image to the left found on TrekEarth taken by Johny Belarige. Here is another shot of the boat fountain at night taken by Arto Teräs. There are also daytime pictures of the fountain including one with the sail off and with the sail off from the rear and one with the sail working and another at sunset. Would be interesting to know who built it, etc. but I got tired of looking.

Floating Jellyfish Pool Lights

Floating Jellyfish Pool Lights Since I am averaging a pool lighting post at a rate of one every six months here is the latest entry. The Floating Jellyfish Pool Lights look like the real jellyfish variety though they float on the top of the water with their fiber-optic tentacles hanging beneath the surface unleashing a “kaleidoscope of color”. The main body is constructed out of durable PVC and it is controlled by a simple auto-off switch. The Floating Jellyfish Pool Lights are available from Frontgate in both ruby and emerald body colors for $59.

ShowerStart Water Saver

ShowerStart Water Saver Given that my shower is less then 10′ away from my hot water heater and it takes less then 15 seconds for the warm water to reach my shower even in winter, this wouldn’t be helpful for me but I can see its purpose. Rather then wait in the shower for the hot water to arrive or turn the shower on and waste hot water while you are performing other tasks elsewhere, the ShowerStart automatically pauses a running shower once it gets warm. Once you return to the shower, simply flip the switch on the ShowerStart and resume the hot water flow and take your shower. The folks at ShowerStart LLC estimate that a family of three could save around $75 in hot water heating costs assuming they save one minute of water per shower. The ShowerStart is available from the manufacturer or R. E. Williams Contractor Inc. for $40.

Whale Faucet Fountain

Whale Faucet Fountain As a kid, I used to love drinking directly from the sink. Now, the sink is a LONG way down and I drink filtered water now that I live in a more suburban environment. For those interested in drinking directly from the sink, you might make use of the Whale Faucet Fountain. This sink attachment allows for either normal faucet operation as well as a fountain by flipping up a piece of plastic. The Whale Faucet Fountain is available directly from Jokari or Organize.com for $3. If this fountain is too kiddish/fishy for you, As Seen on TV has the Spountin which is made from chrome and sells for $15 or two for $20.

Light Saber Umbrella

Light Saber Umbrella Rather then get an relatively mundane umbrella with a light saber handle, why not get an umbrella with a mundane handle and an illuminated shaft? Given that the product page for the Light Saber Umbrella is in Korean embeded in images that Google cannot translate, there is only so much information I can glean, but there are plenty of pretty pictures. The umbrella measures 84 cm (33″) or 94cm (37″) if you count the handle and there is also a smaller kid size. The umbrella comes in the three colors pictured, red umbrella/shaft, blue umbrella shaft and black umbrella/white shaft and is lit by three LEDs. The Light Saber Umbrella is available in at least Korea for $42.

Darth Vader’s Lightsaber Umbrella

Star Wars Style A Darth Vader Lightsaber Umbrella Speaking of more expensive yet simpler umbrellas, we have the Darth Vader’s Lightsaber Umbrella. Supposedly made available by Master Replicas though their site has no mention of the product, this umbrella features an “authentic” light saber handle and a red nylon sleeve so it looks like a “real” light saber when not in use. The Darth Vader’s Lightsaber Umbrella is available “in limited quanties” in two styles which have different artwork on the umbrella. Style A has artwork of Darth Vader amidst rivers of burning lava and style B has art of Darth Vader preparing for battle. You can either get this umbrella and its fancy handle directly from Entertainment Earth or their Amazon store for $99.
