The Water Fryer was designed as a way to increase the longevity of oil in a deep fryer. For those of thus unfamiliar with deep frying, apparently in normal fryers, the oil gets pretty nasty as flakes of food fall off and have no place to go. Since oil and water do not mix, adding a water tank at the bottom gives the extra flakes somewhere else to go leaving the oil cleaner. It also allows water and ice to be added to the fryer without an explosion. The Water Fryer web site did a one month study at a business and was able to cook the roughly the same amount of food using half the oil. As part of their demonstration the Water Fryer folks added a couple of gold fish to prove they were really using water in the tank. Sure makes for a good picture and the video included in the TechEBlog and other referers makes for a good watch. |

Since I am averaging a pool lighting post at a rate of one every six months here is the latest entry. The Floating Jellyfish Pool Lights look like the real jellyfish variety though they float on the top of the water with their fiber-optic tentacles hanging beneath the surface unleashing a “kaleidoscope of color”. The main body is constructed out of durable PVC and it is controlled by a simple auto-off switch. The Floating Jellyfish Pool Lights are available from Frontgate in both ruby and emerald body colors for $59. |

Given that my shower is less then 10′ away from my hot water heater and it takes less then 15 seconds for the warm water to reach my shower even in winter, this wouldn’t be helpful for me but I can see its purpose. Rather then wait in the shower for the hot water to arrive or turn the shower on and waste hot water while you are performing other tasks elsewhere, the ShowerStart automatically pauses a running shower once it gets warm. Once you return to the shower, simply flip the switch on the ShowerStart and resume the hot water flow and take your shower. The folks at ShowerStart LLC estimate that a family of three could save around $75 in hot water heating costs assuming they save one minute of water per shower. The ShowerStart is available from the manufacturer or R. E. Williams Contractor Inc. for $40. |

Rather then get an relatively mundane umbrella with a light saber handle, why not get an umbrella with a mundane handle and an illuminated shaft? Given that the product page for the Light Saber Umbrella is in Korean embeded in images that Google cannot translate, there is only so much information I can glean, but there are plenty of pretty pictures. The umbrella measures 84 cm (33″) or 94cm (37″) if you count the handle and there is also a smaller kid size. The umbrella comes in the three colors pictured, red umbrella/shaft, blue umbrella shaft and black umbrella/white shaft and is lit by three LEDs. The Light Saber Umbrella is available in at least Korea for $42. |

Speaking of more expensive yet simpler umbrellas, we have the Darth Vader’s Lightsaber Umbrella. Supposedly made available by Master Replicas though their site has no mention of the product, this umbrella features an “authentic” light saber handle and a red nylon sleeve so it looks like a “real” light saber when not in use. The Darth Vader’s Lightsaber Umbrella is available “in limited quanties” in two styles which have different artwork on the umbrella. Style A has artwork of Darth Vader amidst rivers of burning lava and style B has art of Darth Vader preparing for battle. You can either get this umbrella and its fancy handle directly from Entertainment Earth or their Amazon store for $99. |
