Treeline Design Bike Art Lamps

OG Tioga BMX disc base, Manitou Axel lamp A few years after getting the idea of building a lamp from a worn out suspension fork, the founder/designer/sole employee of Treeline Design was finally convinced to sells his unique lamps online. Made from old bike barks and a few parts from his local hardware store, these lamps allow parts of the bike to live well past their prime. At present, there are three lamps available based off Manitou suspensions for $140 or $200.

SwitchEasy RunAway

Switch Easys Run Away When Apple announced the Nike + iPod product, I thought it was a neat idea but that it was a little odd to be inserting a chip into the heal of a Nike shoe. Plus, all of the Nike+ shoes are rather expensive ranging from $85 to $130. Enter the RunAway which hooks to the laces of any shoe while holding the iPod Sport Kit sensor. The Run away allows for more convenient access to the sensor which makes turning it off to conserve battery power easier and also contains a convenient method of storing the iPod receiver when not in use. The RunAway AnyShoe adapter will be available mid-November in six colors: white, black, red, orange, pastel blue and pink for $8.

Pedalites

Pedalite Pedalites were created in order to improve cyclist safety at night and in bad weather conditions. These super bright LEDs are kinetically powered by the motion of the pedals and have no batteries to buy, replace or dispose of. The pedaling motion allows enough energy to be stored up to power the lights for up to twelve minutes of the pedals going idle. There are three LEDs on the pedals, a white LED flashes towards the front, an amber one flashes to the side and a red LED pulses to the rear. The Pedalite KPL100, which fits an “adult-size crank” is avaialbe for $72.

Zable’s New Field Complete

Zables new field, goal posts and surrounding track

As I previously mentioned here the college upgrade of the field at Zable Stadium was completed on July 11. Below are links to the gallery of pictures of the field and the new goal posts. The athletics department also enhanced the seating chart for the stadium they released earlier this year and added the Zable Stadium Seating View Map where you can click in the general area of your seats and see your view of the field for even more picture goodness.

Football facility enhancements continue as the ground breaking ceremony for the Jimmye Laycock Football Center which will be located right behind the stadium took place September 15. Here are twopages from the Maine vs. William & Mary program with a recap of all the facility upgrade details.

Geek-a-Cycle

Geek-a-Cycle Back in my heavier gaming days, I would have thought this was a good idea. Now, and I know this will shock some folks, I think it might be a good idea to step away from the computer to exercise. The Geek-a-Cycle is available from Slim Geek for $350 and keep in mind that the “computer and model not included.”

Gator Bowl and the End of VTs 2005 Football Season

Beamer gets the trophy As I mentioned in my Winter Holidays in Review post I went to the Gator Bowl with my folks and my Uncle Ken. While I enjoyed the game for the most part, the whole experience was marred by “The Stomp”. The bitter taste left in my mouth after finding out about the incident, combined with waiting to see where Marcus Vick was going to end up as a result and of course laziness and distractions delayed the post considerably. But since we are well into a new college football season, I think its time to post my thoughts, experiences, etc. and move on.

Davis Key Buoy

Davis Key Buoy The Davis key buoy provides an alternative to traditional floating keychains. When dry, it looks like an ordinary, relatively small car remote. But once keys and the Davis Buoy are dropped into the water, the air tube inside inflates within 30 seconds. Since this air tube 14″ long, it allows the keys to be spotted and retrieved easier from a watercraft. Once inflated, the Davis Buoy is done as you cannot reassemble so its a one-shot deal. The site advises you to “keep plenty of spares available.” Available from Landfall Navigation for $7.

Zable’s New Field Update

and the rock is down and smooshed As previously posted here, The College of William & Mary’s Zable Stadium is getting Field Turf installed this summer. I had trouble finding information on the installation process. The only information I found on the Field Turf site was at the end of this article. Though I did find some more general information on Field Turf. This installation description by Heavenly Greens was the best I have found so far. Installation for a field seems more complex then a putting green. I am still not sure what the purpose was for the big rolls of black stuff seen in my last post. It would appear that the Zable installation is nearing the end of the “geotextile weed block” phase.

Zable Stadium’s New Field

Zable under the backhoe Since 1935, Zable Stadium as it has been known as since 1990 has served as the football stadium for The College of William & Mary. After the first night game ever at Zable stadium when ESPN had to bring their own temporary lights to allow for the game to take place, last year the college received gifts totalling $650,000 for new, permanent lights for the stadium (thank you!).
