DrumXtreme DX-150

DrumXtreme DX-150 If the Finger Drum Mousepad didn’t do it for you, perhaps you would like something closer to the real thing. The DrumXtreme DX-150 connects via USB 1.1 to your computer and only Windows 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP are supported. The DX-150 has 6 pads and 2 foot pedals with 10 varying sound collections to provide 110 sound combinations. It doesn’t appear that the DrumXtreme is available at this time Walmart.com has the price listed for $189 so should it ever come available again, it won’t be too expensive..

The Finger Drum Mousepad

The Finger Drum Mousepad Normally I post things that I have some interest in, but this is just a little too odd for me to pass up. Perhaps its my complete lack of any musical inclination, but I dont really understand why one would want the ability to play the drums on their mouse pad. However, this is the exact functionality that Hammacher Schlemmer has brought to us in the form of the The Finger Drum Mousepad. This pad allows you to play eight different percussion sounds including bass, snare, two rack toms, a floor tom, hi-hat, crash, and ride cymbals. The sounds are powered by 4 AAA batteries. The The Finger Drum Mousepad is available for $40.

Lightwave Speakers

Lightwave Speakers These speakers, which look VERY similar to the Apple Pro Speakers which shipped with a number of Power Macs and iMacs in the G4 days, kick it up a notch by adding lights which have a spectrum of 12 colors. The lighting is “sound-reactive” so as the beat changes, so does the lighting unless you flip the switch to set them to “static”. Once you get past the lighting, the Lightwave speakers seem to be normal powered (adapter included) computer/digital audio player speakers. The Lightwave Speakers are available for $93.

Audio Speakers with Lamp

LimeLight Audio at CEDIA 2006 During Gizmodo’s coverage of CEDIA 2006 they covered these audio speaker/lamp combos from Lime Light Audio and referred to them as ugly. To the normal observer, they may be. To my rather poor sense of asthetics, I think they look pretty slick. I waited to post them until pricing was revealed. The Speaker and Lamp will retail for $500 though it is available for $400 “for a limited time” in six different cabinet colors: salt and pepper, granite, midnight sky, forest green, deep blue, and sand stone with three different shade colors: Tissue Shantung in white, or for $25 more Dupioni Silk in ivory or grey.

jbum’s Whitney Music Box

Whitney Music Box As jbum explains on his blog KrazyDad: “This weekend I’ve been playing, once again, with the ideas of experimental film pioneer John Whitney, using both graphics and audio. While Whitney was interested in turning musical ideas into motion graphics, I’m doing the inverse — turning one of his key animation ideas back into music.” The result is curiously intriguing. Watching the multi-colored balls going around a center point playing music while creating interesting patterns can be very soothing.

Audio Technica AT-DSP190 The AT-DSP190 speakers by Audio Technica of Japan are curious looking non-direction speakers which include blue lights at the base of the speaker. Not sure how they sound, but they look interesting. These speakers are expected to be released November 24th at a price of about $178.

Tap Out a Song and Get the Name

typing on keyboard This Flash utility has you tap a song on your space bar and then identifies the song you were tapping. It successfully identified me tapping out MC Hammer’s “Can’t Touch This” though I am not sure where it came from. This will be useful the next time I have a tune stuck in my head and cannot identify.

180s JVC Powered Insulated Headphones

headphones that keep your ears warm too These Tec Fleece Ear Warmer Powered by JVC made by 180s seem like a good idea. With Them telling us that earbuds cause hearing loss, I decided to get a pair for my father for Christmas. So far he has only had the opportunity to use them once and commented that they sound good.

Heaphone Muffs

JVC ear warmers/headphones I always get a little sketched out when I cannot find a product on a major companies web site. These earphones, reportedly manufactured by JVC with a potential model number of JVC HA-B180 are supposedly designed to keep your ears nice and warm while delivering the tunes. This is a great idea for those that like to be cheap with the heat or go out in The Big Room when its all chilly out there. Cost ranges from $30 to $42.
