Write Shot Flask Pen

Write Shot Flask Pen Throughout the history of this site, we have seen a variety of unique items to conceal and/or carry liquids including alcohol. The Write Shot is quite a strech. With a meager capacity of “about an ounce” in its stainless steel chamber it pretty limited. Otherwise its a pretty non-descript looking pen with unreviewed writing potential. The Write Shot Flask Pen comes with two replacement ink cartridges and comes in a wooden gift box. The pen is available at the sale price of $30.

Trappist Beer

Westvleteren Trappist beer I saw this article from the WSJ concerning Trappist beer and how it was considered the “Holy Grail of beers” . Ignoring this and other religious puns, I found it interesting that one of the most sought after beers is brewed by monks of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance or Trappists. I rarely enjoy beer, but I did find the Fark comment thread discussing the merits of the beer versus the counterpoint that the demand is simply driven by the beer’s relative scarcity interesting.

Duck Wine Decanter

Duck Wine Decanter I discussed the value of decanters when I linked to the Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter back in May. So I figured I would follow up with this duck decanter when it showed up in the feeds because it seemed kind of off beat and humorous. Little did I know how popular duck decanters were as I found four other ones on the first page of a Google search: here, here, here, and here. So much for originality, but whatever. This Duck Wine Decanter is available from Rosebuds of Haworth for $60.

All-in-One Beer Brewing Machine

All-in-One Beer Brewing Machine thejiggse and a few other co-workers were discussing this all-in-one beer brewing machine even before the link hit my aggregator. They must still read actual print media or something. Anyway, this self-contained brewing system takes the brewing process all the way from extract to pouring the finished product. The Popular Science article contains a slide show that outlines the brewing process the machine uses. Building this device took about three months with a total cost of $4,315. The machine is capable of serving up to four kinds of beer while fermenting a fifth and uses no power when not pouring or fermenting.

Violin Bottle Case

Violin Bottle Case Everybody knows that if you want to transport an item safely that you want to employ a violin case. Actually besides musicians, I don’t know of anybody who would agree with that statement besides whoever came up with the idea to make a booze bottle sized violin style bottle case. I do understand that liquor bottles are typically made of glass and that glass can break, but it seems sort of silly to protect a $20 bottle of the sauce in a $40 case. Plus how often do folks take full bottles of alcohol on the road? All the negatives aside, for some reason I find the concept of a mini-violin case amusing and am trying to imagine what a similarly sized stringed instrument would look like and how useless it would be. This thing has to be smaller then even a Ukulele. Anyway, you can score this case from After 5 on sale for $35 with blue velvet at the link below or $40 from Stonington Vineyards in red felt.

Beer Mug Lamp

Beer Mug Lamp While I don’t understand the appeal, I find the Beer Mug Lamp strangely curious. I would think that beer drinkers would find it a tease and perhaps confusing at later stages of inebriation. The lamp is illuminated by a 25W bulb and has a 5′ cord. The Beer Mug Lamp is available for $40. If you would prefer a smaller illuminated beer mug, there is the Beer Mug Sparkle Night Light (Nerd Approved Referer, Gizmodo Referer) that measures 7.5″ x 2.5″ x 1.5″ and sells for $15.

Solar Powered Lighter

Solar Powered Lighter The Solar Powered Lighter provides the curious combination of a lighter and a bottle opener in one brightly colored package. The lighter function can be charged by any form of light be it from the sun or an artificial source and produces a “continuous series of sparks” not a steady flame. The support base doubles as a bottle opener as well as being able to unscrew twist caps. The Solar Powered Lighter is available in .pt for a little under $19. Other non fuel related solutions include the Solar Spark Lighter from Sundance Solar that focuses sunlight onto a focal point using a stainless steel parabolic mirror and sells for $15. Or you could go with the Spark-Lite (reviewed by Drfaulken) for $9.

Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter

Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter Designed by Ed Kilduff of Pollen Design who was inspired by the Apollo Spaceship, the V1 from Metrokane looks like a compressed Erlenmeyer flask. The concept of the V1 brings up a couple of points. First is the value of decanting, or aerating particularly red wines before serving them in order to allow the wine to “breathe” which according to “wine experts” improves its character. The second is the ability for you to re-seal the wine using the included stopper and pump and monitor the pressure level with the gauge on the stopper to make sure you are actually accomplishing anything. While my wine appreciation is hardly to the decanting level, I have noticed a difference between wine that’s been vacuum sealed vs. failed vacuum sealing attempts so I can fully appreciate the gauge at least. The Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter is constructed of hand-blown, lead-free crystal and is available from either Amazon for $70 or from KitchenZing for $69.

Booze Belt

Booze Belt The Booze Belt is designed to carry two bottles of booze and six shot glasses. The liquor holders are made of “thermally molded foam” and the belt itself is made from nylon webbing with an adjustable size to fit most folks. For an added selling point, as per California’s Proposition 65, “The materials used in this product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer or birth defects or other reproductive harm.” Super. If hard alcohol isn’t your thing and you are more of a beer drinker, check out ther beer holster from BeerOutlaw.com. The Booze Belt is currently on back order at After 5 for $90 and it comes with six “shot gun shell” shot glasses but no booze or the model.
