Filed under: Links — roclar @ 7:47 pm
DEWline Radar Station The Distant Early Warning (DEW) line was built to be North America’s early warning system of an “Over the Pole” invasions by the Soviets during the Cold War. Construction began in 1954, and the system was fully operational in 1957. For more information on the DEWline itself, consult the DEWline overview and in particular the DEWline construction statistics. These pictures are from an abandoned DEWline station in Granite Mountain, AK. According to Wikipedia the site was active until 1976.
