Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter

Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter Designed by Ed Kilduff of Pollen Design who was inspired by the Apollo Spaceship, the V1 from Metrokane looks like a compressed Erlenmeyer flask. The concept of the V1 brings up a couple of points. First is the value of decanting, or aerating particularly red wines before serving them in order to allow the wine to “breathe” which according to “wine experts” improves its character. The second is the ability for you to re-seal the wine using the included stopper and pump and monitor the pressure level with the gauge on the stopper to make sure you are actually accomplishing anything. While my wine appreciation is hardly to the decanting level, I have noticed a difference between wine that’s been vacuum sealed vs. failed vacuum sealing attempts so I can fully appreciate the gauge at least. The Metrokane V1 Vacuum Decanter is constructed of hand-blown, lead-free crystal and is available from either Amazon for $70 or from KitchenZing for $69.
